IMPORTANT NOTICE TO THE BAR AND PUBLIC
THIRTY-DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
CONCERNING ADOPTION OF COMPREHENSIVE DRAFT OF
2025 LOCAL BANKRUPTCY RULES

 

 

Please be advised that, upon completion of a period of extensive review, analysis and drafting by the Court’s internal Local Rules Committee, the Board of Judges of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey has approved for publication for a thirty-day public comment period, a comprehensive draft of proposed 2025 Local Bankruptcy Rules. Whereas the most recent substantial evaluation and modification of the Local Rules was published in 2015 after a three-year review period, the proposed 2025 Local Bankruptcy Rules are meant to improve upon the current Local Rules by adapting to the advancement of the Court’s local practice.

For ease of reference, the proposed 2025 Local Bankruptcy Rules package is attached hereto. The package is also available on the Court’s website at the following link.

Dates for public comment and implementation are set forth as follows:

  • April 14, 2025 –Publication of draft rules for public comment.
  • May 14, 2025 – Close of public comment period.
  • May 2025 – Board of Judges consideration of comments received.
  • May – June 2025 – Submission of draft rules for formal approval by the Board of Judges of the Bankruptcy Court and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
  • August 1, 2025 - effective date of 2025 Local Bankruptcy Rules.

By approving a publication draft, the Board of Judges solicits comments from bankruptcy professionals and members of the public.
