Chief Judge Michael B. Kaplan's Hearing Dates

402 East State Street
Trenton, N.J. 08608
Courtroom #8

NOTE: The following list may contain dates that no longer comply with notice requirements found in the Local Rules for the District of New Jersey. It is the responsibility of the e:filer to ensure proper notice. The court will reschedule improperly listed matters and the e:filer will receive a Notice of Electronic Filing indicating the correct date. It is the responsibility of the e:filer to notify all interested parties of the change. Continuous scheduling errors may result in a revocation of the e:filer's password and log-in. NOTE: Certain motions, applications and objections do not require a hearing, but the e:filer will still be presented with the Hearing Information screen. This screen can be skipped by clicking on the [Next] button. The following events do not require a hearing date to be entered by the e:filer:

  • Application and Order to Show Cause
  • Applications to Employ
  • Application and Order Shortening Time
  • Application for Compensation  $1,000.00 or less
  • Objections and Responses to matters that already have hearing dates
  • Cross-Motions to matters that already have hearing dates scheduled
  • Please refer to the User Guide for additional information.

All motions that require notice to be sent by the court must be scheduled for a minimum of 30 days from the date of filing. Pursuant to 11 E. 6 of the Court's Administrative Procedures, where a Movant seeks the entry of an emergent order, such as an Order Shortening Time or Order to Show Cause, the movant is required to simultaneously bring such filing to the attention of Judge Kaplan's Courtroom Deputy by e-mail.

***Although not mandatory, Chief Judge Kaplan prefers in-person hearings for contested, non-chapter 13 matters. Please consult the District Court’s website for up-to-date information regarding Courthouse admission: https://www.njd.uscourts.gov/covid-19-orders-procedures-and-changes.  Please note, however, that parties may still choose to appear telephonically through CourtSolutions in lieu of in-person participation. In any event, parties are instructed to communicate with their adversary and the Court regarding whether they intend to appear in person or telephonically.  Ideally, the Court would like all interested parties to appear via the same method (i.e., all parties appear in person, or all parties participate telephonically)***
